Commerce Lexington Joins Mayor & Diverse Group in Appealing for Peace, Safety in Lexington12/12/2023
Commerce Lexington signed on to support a statement released jointly today (Dec. 12, 2023) by Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers, and a group of Lexington Jewish and Muslim/Palestinian leaders have been working on since October. The statement is an appeal for peace in Gaza and Israel, and a united stance to “keep Lexington peaceful, and all of its residents safe” at a time when there have been extremist attacks on Jewish, Muslim and Arab communities around the country. “Lexington is saying ‘not here’,” Gorton said.
Commerce Lexington has a strong precedent for publicly condemning violence and threats to specific groups of people, while supporting efforts to bring people together, such as our Courageous Conversations following our Charleston Leadership Visit, our Racial Equity Pledge, and our stance on the downtown Confederate statues. Lexington residents, businesses and organizations are invited to sign on to the statement. Please send your name and address to [email protected]. Continue reading for the full, joint statement.
