LEADERSHIP LEXINGTON YOUTH PROGRAM STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA.

2. Attendance is required at all sessions to graduate. Exceptions to this must be accompanied by a note from a parent/guardian and school counselor in order to be excused. The Leadership Lexington Youth Program Steering Committee will consider absences on a case by case basis. Students will be required to make up any absence by completing a written assignment relative to the topic of the missed session. This work will be assigned by the LLYP committee and due the day of the following day session.

3. All class members must participate in the class project held the last day session.

4. A high degree of professionalism and good behavior is expected throughout the program.

5. Cell phones are permissible. However, phone use and texting are NOT permitted during speaker presentations. Breaks will be built into the days for communication. This will be strictly enforced.

6. Dress code: No blue jeans, no shorts. Trousers, khaki’s, and collared shirts that conform to traditional casual wear are required attire unless otherwise indicated by Director.  More

2008-2009 Leadership Lexington Youth Class

The Leadership Lexington Youth program is an educational program that provides a unique opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students enrolled in Fayette County public, private, parochial, and home schools to interact with community leaders, talk about issues, careers, business and post-secondary institutions. Throughout the program, students will participate in interactive exercises providing real life hands on experience. The program will motivate the students to think seriously about the role they would like to play and the difference they can make in the Lexington community.

Mission: To prepare diverse individuals for leadership through education and hands-on interaction, touching upon issues and resources pertaining to our community.

Format: Students from each Fayette County High School who wish to become involved in impacting the future will go through an application process.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Present in-depth programs that acquaint participants with community needs, issues and resources.
  • Meet and interact with local leaders and decision makers.
  • Visit local sites and facilities.
  • Broaden their perspective and understanding of community involvement.
  • Connect to opportunities and challenges faced in career development.
  • Foster leadership development as a stepping-stone to being a community leader or a leader in the student’s school or community.
  • Provide opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to know one another and develop a level of mutual trust and respect.
  • To create a network of young community leaders to guide the future of the community.
